Spring 2007 Classes Prioritization Ranking

26 02 2007

Today is Monday and this will be the 5th week of the semester. So far after 4 weeks of classes, I’ve managed to visualize and determine the individual class’ priority. I’m taking 4 classes this semester with 2 remaining for the fall 2007 semester. So far, it has been so many writing and things to deal with. I barely have any time to do anything else besides spending all my weekend inside the AIRC writing papers, homeworks and group meetings.

I can honestly say that I’m a very organized person in terms of my schedule with regard to classes, balanced life, gym and of course work. I thought that this skill would be enough since I’ve been taking 5 classes for the past semesters since I started in CSUS but I was wrong! I even have to use clipboards to file assignments, lectures, etc. to keep everything in one nice stack. The downfall of this is having to carry them around and try to keep them in one bag since they are separated by classes.

1. MIS 150 – Database Management Systems for Business
A tough class with a homework problem due every week. There is no presentation in this class but there’s one group project that’s due towards the end of the semester that uses Oracle. The main concern about this class is the 3 exam with each one being 25% of the final grade, and I have to be on-point on the exam since everything counts. Actually everything counts since this is a class that everyone is worried about; imagine a 75% passing rate for each semester, even my MIS 160 professor warned us about it. My goal on this class is to spend my weekends in school to do homeworks, and review class lectures and terminologies. I want to get at least an A- on this class to keep my GPA high just in case I decided to get into the graduate program.

2. MIS 160 – Systems Development Life Cycle
The professor is really good and he gives us a great deal of encouragement on each tasks. In honesty, I was already excited about the projects even on the first day of the class. Given that I’m also the project manager for my team, I have a huge responsibility to make sure that each phases goes right according to his requirements, not to mention the end user. There’s a lot of writing in this class, I mean a lot and I’m not even kidding. On top of our team report deliverable package, we are also required to do an individual deliverable, which is a research paper due every week requiring 4-6 pages with a minimum of 10 resources (not citing!). I gave this a second ranking below MIS 150 because the class is all about writing, and if I do great on most of them, I can probably see myself in A.

3. COMS 103 – Presentational Speaking in an Organization
One of my easier ones but don’t get me wrong, this class still requires some serious attention since there’s going to be a lot of speech here. I have taken speech classes before but never have I encountered a class which requires a lot of speech. The first ones are cake but the formal presentations are no joke, aside from not being able to use visual aids, this will test my ability to not rely on note cards. I think we can only look at the note card, 4 seconds out of 60 seconds…which means my eyes should be focused on my audience in most of the time. The exam is pretty average as long as you’re attending the class on a daily basis. Since it is a once a week ordeal (Tuesdays), there’s no way I’m going to be missing any classes, and that applies to every classes I’m taking.

4. RLS 100 – Recreation and Leisure
Possibly the easiest class I’ve taken here in CSUS, and something I would consider a filler. There’s still 4 papers due however but none of them are research intensive and only requires personal experience stuff. Overall, an easy A here hopefully once I start studying for the exams since I didn’t study for the first one! LOL

Welcome!

1 02 2007

Welcome to my blog. This will be my journal until the end of college, but I might continue posting even so after all is said and done, but I’m taking this day by day at this point. My goal right now is to get good grades this semester, not just pass since I need to improve my GPA if I wanted to get into the graduate program. If I ever get to that point, I’ll probably consider taking the finance route so I can have an alternative field. It’s not likely that technology (MIS) will fail but I also love dealing with finance, and that is something that I would like to do in the future if given an opportunity to do so. Real Estate is another but there’s no need to get a master’s degree in that (I believe), and it’s something that I can get a license outside of CSUS.

Finally, after this semester is over, I’m planning on getting certified as a personal fitness trainer, which means I have to take the course and the exam that comes with it. It will probably take me 2-3 months if I devote a lot of time in studying everyday. There are multiple reasons why I’m doing this and the first real reason is, I love training, which leads me to the fact that I want to help people get in shape and achieve their goal. I personally have plenty of experience in training and dieting, but I would like to take that knowledge to the next level and become an expertise. Don’t get it wrong, this is not towards a real career but rather an alternative, more like a hobby or a lifestyle outside of my ‘real’ work.
